Hey guys
Story is a bit long so be patient with me please:D

I have a torch coral that has been in my tank for about a month now, first week when I bought it I put it on the sand bed and it was opening very nice even much better than what I saw in LFS. Then I decided to move it on a rock that I had dedicated for a torch (an island distant from other softies) . So the torch was closer to light on that rock (middle of the tank). At first when I put it there it was only opening halfway , I decided to leave it for a couple of days and let it adapt but it opened less and less every day so I decided to put it back on the sand bed. when put back on the sand bed just the day after I noticed brown slime on one of the heads and it was taking that head with it :( so I quickly cut that head off. Now it's been about 10 days since I cut off that one head and placed the coral back to its orignal place but it is still only bringing the tip of the tentacles out (it's not cramped inside the skeleton like when it's about to die but only bringing it's tips out) . I am out of ideas of what else to do with it I thought maybe you guys have some ideas

Tank is a 40g(30x15x21) tall tank with two AI Prime LEDs and params:

ammonia : 0
Nitrite : 0
Nitrate : 5
Calcium : 420
Alk : 12dkh
PH : 7.8
Phosphate : 0.25
Salinity : 1.025
Temp: 80.2

torch is under an MP10 pump, about 10 inch away so it is not in a direct flow, when it was opening before it only had the tentacles waving gently. It was initially close to a leather coral. Then I even moved the leather coral away a few days ago and it still not opening. I am really out of ideas :headwally:

IME, my torch does good with just enough flow to make it wiggle side to side. 10 inches from the a MP10 might be to much flow. I am not familiar with them type of LEDs, are they set at a specific percentage. I have mine on the sandbed with T5s. Also, I noticed that your Alk is a little high for my tasting. I would shoot for the 9-9.5 range. Shoot for 450-460 for Ca.

the MP10 is right above the torch so it is not blowing at it (torch is sitting 10 inch under not infront of the MP10 but I will try to reduce the flow and see what I get. I also find my Alk to be high but I don't know how I can bring it down. I use Reef Crystals salt and my fresh salt mix measures at 11dkh. Is there any other way to bring it down or do I have to switch salts and do water changes ?
The lights are new products from AI I started out with 40% intensity with deep blue and 20% white and other colors at 10% , but I have a hungry BTA, Zoas were also reaching for the light so I had to increase the intensity to 70% for everything else to be happy, the torch is the only coral that is not happy however it is also the only euphyillia I have at the moment

Try using regular Instant Ocean it's much lower. You can eventually mix out the Reef crystal if you must, but I'm using it and have been for a while without any problems. I'd look to something else. Maybe a fish pecking on it, or a shrimp...

Will do thanks for the advice.
Tank is new and running with no fish or shrimp for about 8 months now . Decided to make my garden first before letting kids play in it :D
