12 g nano running since Feb. 2011 - office tank
SG 1025 - measured w/ refractmeter, checked calibration on Friday & it's fine
Yasha goby/tiger pistol were last fish additions in June or July of 2011. 6 Astrea snails were added in March or April, nothing new added since the snails.
All fish acting normal with the acception of the goby & that started last week, not dosing meds or hypo. Still in the DT.
Yasha started acting strange on Monday or Tuesday last week. Decided not to stay in the burrow with the pistol. When it was around the pistol the shrimp was not bothering or harassing the fish. Yasha was hanging out by himself at the bottom of the tank, otherwise eating & acting normal. Not at work Wednesday so unsure of behavior. Thursday was in the burrow with shrimp most of the morning. Out by itself in the afternoon. Friday am came in & goby was by himself at the bottom of the tank. Seemed normal. Didn't see the goby in the afternoon. Stayed late & did a 2g water change & added a new bag of Purigen. Purigen was rinsed heavily before being added to the tank. Found goby in the back chamber where the pump is. Finished water change & put goby back in the main part of the tank.
Came in this morning & found the goby in the back of the tank by the pump again. Made a barrier with egg crate & plastic screen to keep him from jumping back again. Also added 2 pvc tubes for the goby to hang out in since something seemed to be scaring him suddenly. Caught the goby & put him back in the front of the tank once the barrier was in place. He was floating at the top of the tank for maybe 30 minutes or so. Tried to swim & it's a little eratic, it's like he can't keep his body down at the bottom. He was in a pvc tube for a little while but at the top of the pvc. He is now at the bottom of the tank & close to rockwork to keep himself down.
I did notice what looks like a small bump on the underside of the abdomen of the goby. It's slightly larger than the tip of a ball point pen. The color looks fine & don't see anything else out of the ordinary by means of appearance.
These fish don't eat over the weekend & this is the first time I have ever seen odd behavior out of the goby. Diet consists of Formula 2 flakes fed twice a day & a small piece of frozen in the morning. Frozen food varies between Rods, Prime Reef, PE Mysis, & a few others.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to save this little guy. He was an adult when I purchased him so maybe it is just his time
