I was fragging my favorite orange zoanthids today when i accidentaly let them slip upside down onto the glue. The net result is it now looks like they are encased in carbonite a la Han Solo. I am debating on what to do. Should I cut them in half which would cut off the heads but at least then they would have an opening to the water to grow out of? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

cory,

I'm having a hard time picturing your problem. Do you have all the polyps glued upside down? The reason I ask is because you could possibly save any polyps that were not glued shut. A polyp may be able to open up if some of the sides were glued, but once you glue that top it is more likely than not a gonner.

they fell on their tops into the glue. i tried to rinse them as much as possible, but they are completely surrounded. i glued them on a rock and put them back in the tank just in case someone had a good idea on how I could fix the situation. So to summarize they are glued onto a rock the correct side up, but they have a glob of glue surrounding the tops.

i know exactly what you are talking about, done this many times. the zoa is a wet, mucos like skin, which will not adhere to superglue. let it dry for a sec, and then VERY CAREFULLY, with a very fine instrument, like an exacto knife, scalple blade, disection probe, disectoin tweezers you can lift the glue off of the polyp without tearing the polyp. it will lift off just like it has a molded hat of superglue on top of it. but again, emphasis on being very careful when doing it.

if you live near a local university, go to their bookstore, ask if they have any disection kits, they are pretty cheap. i use all surgical grade tools to do my fragging, kinda like playing coral opertion ;)

ive been there done that, even after i pealed the glue off..
just depends on how tought the zoas are..it took like 2 weeks for
mine to open bac up, but they did..

BIG SCOTT

You can also just leave them be and the glue will come off on its own. Trust me, I have done it more then once :D
