Does it look something like this:

From http://melevsreef.com/id/algae.html

One of the dreaded algaes we see in our tanks is called "Red Slime Algae" but it is actually Cyano bacteria. Typical solutions: Reduce Nitrates & Phosphates; increase flow; siphon out all you can see with airline tubing. Use a turkey baster to blast this off of sensitive corals, because it will smother them to death. I've never used any chemical "solutions" and usually have it beat in about 3 weeks time.

Feel free to remove the rock, but keep in mind that removing the rock will not cure the cause. Remove or deal with the visual problem, then increase flow to that area to keep that algae from showing back up.

It may be flow, or just time that will solve your issue but keep up your tank care techniques and it will go away in no time.

How long has that tank been setup? Less than or around a year?

The reason I ask is because cyano appears a lot in new tanks and eventually goes away with time.

Your tank is still very new. Redirect your flow like you mentioned above and over time you should be fine.

Best of luck with your zoas.

Also, you can use poly filter pads to help remove some of the excess nutrients causing the bloom. You can use carbon, but very sparingly and for only a few days. Too much too quickly will shock the entire tank.

Oh and water changes.;)

If you do not already have some in your cleanup crew, try some red leg hermit crabs. They helpped solve my problem a few months ago.

Ok thanks for the help. I an running the standard aquapod pump. I will be replacing it with a maxi jet soon. I do not have any red leg hermits but have some blue leg hermits. I do weekly 2 and a half to 3 gallon water changes. Its not a bloom. It is just on the little rock with my zoas on it.
