hi i was wondering if there was something that i could make myself that would be like a remote that would control heaters, sump etc. any ideas???

Do a search for Arduino controllers.. If you are good at programming you can make anything you would like for your aquarium..

If youre not that good.. I would just buy a controller.. You can get a Reef Keeper Lite for around $100..

If the goal is to be able to shut down stuff while you feed or do water changes, you may want to go the simple/cheap route and get one of these.

There are tons of reef controllers out there..
Have you tried google ? search "diy reef controller"

or the search function on here..

Should yield you plenty of reading/examples/tutorials,etc...

Or just buy an off the shelf reef controller..

When you say remote, what do you mean? Just a switch panel that is easier to access, or do you want to do it with your phone or be able to access it when out of the house? You can do any of these with an arduino, but if after access out the house it is a damn site easier to buy an off the shelf.

Then either have a look at ferduino or buy an off the shelf. There is a huge learning curve to doing that yourself, for cheap...

i am looking to DIY controller and a fair few other bits, but still haven't come across an easy solution. ReefPi still looks very promising, but development is slow due to lack of developers with familiarity of the RPi or similar :(
