So as i attempt to set up my new 50 gallon today my return pump is pushing wayyyyyy too much water out while the drain from the tank seems to be way to slow(even though it is rated at 500gph).
I have a ball valve on my drain, just not one on the return! So tomorrow i will buy a ball valve for the return! Anyother thing is that my sump is not working. I will explain the setup to you guys, I have a 50 gallon Breeder with a drilled 1 1/4" drain pipe on the top right corner. I drains down to the sump via a ball valve. And suction, as well as the pump on my skimmer. The sump is a 20 gallon Long. In the first compartment there is a CSS 125 which isnt seeming to work either, but I will get to that later. The second compartment has a refugium in it. And the last compartment is for the return pump only (the return is a RIO 2100 rated at 2619LPH). It returns to the tank via a 3/4" bulkhead on the left upper corner of the tank. I will add a ball valve to the return side tomorrow. Also what should i do about a siphon break is it even possible with my return being about an inch down into the tank.
As for the skimmer, it doesnt seems to pull out ANY skimmate just slightly discolored water. Which doesnt make sense to me because i just added LS and LR. The pump for the skimmer is about 3" under the water level. The compartment the skimmer is in is 10"L x 12" W x 9" H. What is wrong with the skimmer that it is skimming out nasty skimmate?
