Hi all,

Just saw today that my Chaetedon Semi Larvatus is with some type of white spots all over him.

Although he is eating fine, and that I see white particules in the air, I also notice that he seems to be itchy and going always near the shrimps to get some scratch (sorry for my poor english).

Sunday I did a partial water change and the salinity increased (from 1023 to 1025).

Here goes some pictures of the big guy and also a picture of my emperor.

Can someone help me indentify what it is waht can be the cure (I am very worried).

My tang (japonicus) also has the same problem.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Looks to be marine Ick. You will need to set up a quarentine tank.

Fill it with water from your reef tank, and keep the temp the same.

You have a few choices to treat them.

1. copper treatment (cuprmine works great) this treatment is a sure fire way to cure them. but overdose and they'll die.

2. hyposalinity lower the salinity slowly and keep it low for a period of time (you'll need to look and find out where to keep salinity and for how long, i use copper)

3. for a quick remedy until you qt them... feed them garlic extract on theyre food. kent garlic extreme is great, or you can squezze the juices from real garlic. My tang occasionaly gets a few spots. I feed her galic and they are gone.

Wish you luck. Theres a sticky in the top of this forum, or the new hobby forum, it should help

Best remedy I ever found was a product called Stop Parasite......My Tang had it so bad it took 15 days of double treatments instead of the usual 5....That was 3 months ago & no re-occurance....Its reef safe so you don't have to QT.....

Thanks

Thanks

thanks for your help. Since I don't have a QT tank, the only 2 possible alternatives I see is to lower the salinity or use the product you mentioned (is from what manufacturer ?)

The manufacturer is Chem Marin, the owners name is Al...I was frantic on a Sunday night @ 10:30 PM. I thought my tang wouldn't last the night.... I found his phone number in a Google search for Chem marin "Stop parasite"....I called & couldn't believe he actually answered the phone!!!! I had bought his product & Copper, but after doing some research on the net I decided not to use the copper...I was reluctant to add anything to my display tank & on a whim decided to call....I have been posting about his product every time someone mentions ich...i had INCREDIBLE customer service....HE even called ME a couple times to see how my Tang was doing....VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!! He stuck with me until the Tang was cured....That was about 3 months ago & I think everyone should know about this produuct!!!!
