Hi I have a 46 gallon bow front reef tank. i am new to this and i am looking at a Maxi-Jet Powerhead/Pump from doctor smith and foster web site www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=4609&N=2004+113040

All of this is kind of confusing what should my flow rate be for this style of tank. should i go with Model 600 (160 gph),Model 900 (230 gph)or Model 1200 (295 gph

10x Turn over per hour the the average stated min flow for a reef tank.. so that would be 460GPH. So two 12s or two 900s would be a pretty good start.. You might want to look at the Koralia pumps.. Here is a link.. You could get by with just one 3 or 4.. Would use less power put out less heat and have just as much flow if not more. They also come with magnetic mounts.. I've got a couple of them and I'm very happy with them.. HTH

10 is just adequate for keeping LPS--if you are going to keep SPS then you will need a 20 plus times an hour rate
