Help!!

Ok, have a little problem. Last nite when I topped off our tank, for some reason the overflow seemed to stop working. Ok, so I run a brush through the tube and all seems clear, turn the pump back and and walla - same problem. I have spent the better part of today jacking with this and still have no answers. The flow going into the sump is still very strong, but once the pump starts flowing it doesn't appear to be draining as the tank just continues to fill and if I let it go, will flow over the sides, even though the water is still draining into the sump. I dunno what else to do!! Any suggestions?

If it weren't for the closed loop, there would be no flow in our tank at all right now, so I need to get this fixed sooner rather than later. Thanks!

I don't know if you have a build in overflow or over the top U-tube overflow. If you have the later is it possible you have an airbubble in the top of the U that is taking up space water could be flowing through?

Maybe you have a snail in the line between the overflow and sump. Try taking that off and running a broom stick or something through it. If it's flexible, that is.

Its a built in overflow - no air bubbles - no snails in the line - flow seems to be going as good as it was, just for some reason doesn't seem able to keep up with the return pump.

Check the overflow teeth in the acrylic for algae buildup. That will impede the flow as well.

Ya - checked that out also - not the culprit. I think I've covered all the obvious bases, just hoping someone out there has a "not so obvious" solution, or something that I missed.

Crisis averted - there was indeed a turbo stuck in the bulkhead of the standpipe. Thanks for all who offered help and suggestions! And thanks for coming to the rescue AGAIN Todd!

Scary isn't it? I always think of things like that happening while I'm not home and then coming home to a big flood.

Yeah it is pretty scary - like you said - what if we weren't home when it happened! Fortunately we were, and it was more frustrating than anything - and enough to make me feel foolish cuz I was pretty sure there was NOT a snail stuck in there - much less an almost 2" turbo!! Yet another humbling experience!! LOL
