Long story short I have a 65 gal with a canister filter (mistake I know) but we love the tank. I am planning on building a house in the next 2-3 years with a fish room and a 200-300 gal in wall tank. I am starting the reasearch now because I don't know enough to do this right now and I can't find anyone in my area to help. I know I want to run a sump, chiller, ca reactor, lights. I need suggestions on what brands. I like the idea of a closed loop but am afraid of leaks (is this a problem). What else will I need. I want to make this tank as automated as possible. As for tanks acrylic or glass and who makes them. I want to have all kinds of coral and fish. thanks. I can't wait until I get a build thread of my own. Sorry for all the questions. If you would rather point me to good thread it would still be appriciated.

Where do you live? Your location is blank. Chances are unless you live in Antartica that there are people there willing to help;)

Slow down, take a deep breath and start reading. If you want opinions on large tank builders you need to ask that in the Vendor Experience Forum as this forum is for non-vendor discussion.

All of the questions you posed really depend on what type of fish and corals you intend to keep. 2-3 years down the line is a VERY LONG TIME and without knowing the layout of the room, you are limited in what we can help you with as the "tank room" on a large system is just as, if not more important than the tank and equipment itself.

Brands are very subject to opinion. You will need to know what you want to spend for each item. How much do you have to operate this systems monthly bills for water, sewer, electricity, supplements, time for maintenance, food, corals, fish, etc. A good rule of thumb is $50/gallon on a system, so you are into $10-15K already without even knowing where the system is going to be located:)

The good threads are all here, just start reading.

BTW, [welcome]

Since you still have couple of years, just read through all the tank build threads in the large tank forum you will find out that all the answers to your questions and many more stuff you don't even know to ask are there. Good luck!

One thing to think about is where you plan to put the equipment and if the tank will be on the first floor or the basement.

Consider a utility room behind the tank, or below it, to house the equipment. This is the biggest asset to maintaining the tank without buckets and hassels.

Decide if you want to look at the tank hourly, daily, or weekly. If you want to see it all the time, put in near your kitchen. Daily... somewhere else on the main floor. Weekly... in the basement rec room.
