Herbie method

I'm not sure if this has been addressed before. I'm thinking of going with the Herbie method. I pretty much have it figured out, but my question is if you put the drain pipe 6" below the overflow (as in the description) how is this silent. Don't you hear the water pouring over the edge of the overflow?

I run the herbie method also. It is totally quiet. You adjust the drain level up so that it is just at the overflow level and their is no noise. If you have a clog or problem the emergency drain will take over. I have been running this for over a year and not one problem. HTH

I believe I understand your question. The drain is 6" below the overflow but the constant water level is closer to the top of the overflow. This is achieved through use of either a gate valve or ball valve that restricts water flow through the drain. The drain pipe ends up being constantly submerged so no air is sucked down through it.
