Herbie or Bean?

Im having trouble trying to decide how to plumb my 187G. I have two 3/4" and one 1-1/2" holes to work with. I could do a Herbie with 1-1/2" main and two 3/4"'s as emergencies, or vice versa. Or, go with a bean 3/4" full siphon 3/4 trickle and 1-1/2" emergency or ...? The bean is doable in the overflow but will be a tight fit. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

I would probably put properly sized bulkheads on everything and increase the pipe diameter to 1" on the 3/4" bulkheads and decrease the pipe diameter to 1" on the 1.5" bulkhead and run a bean drain. I'd use the 1.5" hole as the full siphon as it will decrease the likely hood of a clog at the bulkhead.

Depends on the turnover you want. You could consider a Herbie using 1x3/4 as the full siphon, 1x1.5 as the emergency and the other 3/4 as the return. Which ever way you slice it I would keep the 1.5 as the emergancy.
Not sure having an extra 3/4 emergency would have much use....

I agree, bean is ideal. I like the idea of upping the pipe size to 1" on the 3/4" bulkheads. So how does this sound, 3/4" bulkheads with 1" pipe for the siphon and open stand pipe, 1-1/2" for the emergency?
