I'm staying with my grandparents in Englewood for 2 weeks (one week left, then back to Rochester
). I was hoping I would be able to get a license or permit of some type and collect a few things (I was really hoping for gorgs and mantis shrimp
). So far I haven't gotten many answers from the FWC website, and of the two lists I found there, it lists gorgonia ventalina and g. flabellum, fire corals, hard corals, and stony corals as prohibited. So I've concluded from the lists that soft corals (which it mentions) and gorgonians, with the exeptions I mentioned before, are not prohibited. Do I still need a license?? Does anyone know what type of license I would need, and where any good collecting spots are??
I was at Casperson beach a day or two ago and the little tide pools there are really interesting, and I found a half dead purple blade gorg at Manasota beach (now I've confirmed the "dead" part). So I know there's some stuff here lol...
Also I was at "Lost Reef" yesterday and was not very impressed, the guy was nice but it seemed as though he doesn't get much business (probably hurts his livestock as much as him)... I was hoping to find something we don't get up in NY but other than yellow chromis which I haven't seen before, I didn't see anything extra special. Are there any other stores in the area I should check out?
Thanks!!!
