hermit crab shells?

i just ordered some hermit crab shells and i hope i got the right size. i have 2 red reef hermits, they are full grown i believe, their shells now are icky and about an inch.
the shells i ordered has openings between 1/4 to 1/2" is this the correct size? the whole shell sizes vary from an inch to 1" 1/2
i hope they can fit in these im starting to think they may be too tight. ive never seen a naked hermit before so i have no clue what lies under their shell :eek2:

Just put the shells in there and watch, hermit crabs are really odd looking without their shells. They'll go to the pile and just for the heck of it try a few on.

The store I work at has many empty shells of dead snails. Many people will come in here and ask for them for their hermit crab to grow into. We normally just give them away since they are no use to us anyways. So if your LFS is nice enough maybe you can stop by and just ask them if they can give you a few shells from their dead snails.
