Having a mixture is good, even though the hermits can sometimes kill the snails. It just sucks when the snails fall off the glass or a rock sometimes because then I have to save them.
hermits and snails is generally not a good mix. The hermits eventually dwindle the population of snails
IMO hermits are a little more verstile in what they can clean and eat. Also if you get necessarius snails which live in the substrate they generally stay there away from the hermits.
Other suggestions for a clean up crew----brown brittle stars, shrimp and pin cushion urchins(which will clean the glass)
