Hey all... looking for some overflow advice...

I'd take all of the stuff out (flow, rock, heater, livestock) and put it into one or more rubbermaid tubs. Then I'd fix the tank and let it cure for a few days before adding things back. If you do the rubbermaid thing you can take your time and make sure it works right. Any time you do something that make you rush, is when problems show up...
 
i agree with jack....get a rubbermaid...or a tank...and take ur time with it......

i did see your tank recently, and see that you would have plenty of room to drain.. to a level that would be suitable for your animals.....however....silicon is toxic (until dry), so i wouldnt risk dropping it in the tank

besides...this give you a reason for another tank!!...if not, atleast a quarantine
 
I might be doing overflows and CLS on the main tank soon or someday. The system I am looking at doing at the ones where the boxes are on the back of the tank rather than inside.

I like how it doesnt take up tank space inside which is my main gripe with RR tanks. They also can intrude on water flow unless you go with the 1/4 circle corner ones.

Like everyone said go drain the tank and do it right what ever you decide on. In this hobby things go bad when you rush or take shortcuts. I mean seriously , say you drain it to the point where you can work on it and a bit falls into the tank without you seeing it ? Or just as worse things getting dropped onto of corals or other problems.

Take your time , there are people that will baby sit stuff if need be so that the end result will be what u wanted. Nothing worse than logging on and seeing something go wrong with a friend and a fellow reefer.

Thanks for the advice and offers, guys... I will definitely take everything out, then. I didn't realize silicon was toxic until it cures! For some reason, I always think my fish have to be in a tank... that they have to be seen... rubbermaid containers never occurred to me! :) I will probably just run my skimmer "Hang on the rubbermaid" for a bit... hehe. Three rubbermaids I would think would do well. One for corals (smaller one I suppose since its only two days... I actually could put them in my 10 gallon QT... they'd probably do well in there me thinks), one for LR, and one for the fishies.

I think this is going to be a Christmas break project. So I'll definitely get back with those of you that offered rubbermaids then. I will also develop a solid game plan before then.

I've got a 29 gal. tank you can borrow. We used it and 2 rubbermaids when we moved my brothers tank. You could probably get most rock in it and corals and use my 65 watt pc light that hasnt sold. Just let me know when the time comes.

I haven't used any meds in the QT at all yet Jack, but thanks for the heads up. :)
