Hey guys I need a little bit of help I am trying to choose a new skimmer for my tank but I do not know which one of these to choose from the option that I am looking at is Reef Octopus NWB-110 Protein Skimmer, Reef Octopus NWB-150 Protein Skimmer, or Reef Octopus Extreme Series EXT-160 Protein Skimmer I am lean towards the 110 or 150 i think for my system the 160 might be an over kill what do you guys think???

My tank is 55 gallon long tank with a 20 gallon sump i have 6 fishes and about a few zoas, 3 Ricordia, 2 Orange Cap, 1 yellow scroll, 1 candy cane, 1 Favia, 1 red blasto, and a Green Frogspawn

my current skimmes is a hang on skimmer aqua c remora

I would forget about the octopuss and look at a sealife systems skimmer. They work way better (i have both) and you can get one local at the aquarium in Apopka for around $200. Blows the Octopuss away.

I'd buy the MSX extreme 200 instead of the 160. The difference in price is almost nothing and you get a better skimmer.

IMO you can never have too big of a skimmer. My 40g tank before this one had a Deltec rated for a 300g system. It did a great job of keeping my water super clean and when I went to upgrade to a larger tank I didn't have to buy a new skimmer.

Are you planning on keeping a 55g semi perminantly?

Exactly, but a skimmer is a key component in a reef system. A lot will hinge on your tanks ability to export.

If I recall the MSX 160 was $279 and the MSX 200 is $299. That's a no brainer and one heck of a skimmer for the money.

i finally got my new skimmer Octo Ex 160 now just cant understand were the yellow turbine goes any help would be great. This thing makes alot of bubbles that go to my return pump so get suck up into my display tank not a really good look. is that cuz it still needs to be broken in?

The yellow turbine is for using the mesh they supplied also to make a mesh mod wheel. If you want to get better performance, forget about meshing that wheel and pick up an ATB purple pinwheel. You can get them from Reef Specialty. I have the large one, and it blows the stock white one away.
