How much Driveway heat do you think I should dose for my tank? Do the same as the reccommendations for the Kent turbo Calcium? Do you know how much that is per 50 gallons? Thanks in advance for your help!
you can use randys calculator there is a link somewhere on this forum.I forgot where to find it but I am sure someone will post it.You have to mix about 2 1/2 cups in 1 gal of water then add what you need.Look for the reef calculator first because you don't want to overdose. What is your ca at now?I would not add more than 1 tbls of the mixed solution without testing first.
smeese, Dose the Prestone driveway heat the same as you would Kents turbo calcium. Use the turbo calcium or anhydrous caC12 option on the calculator to see how much is needed to raise the levels to where you want them. For what it is worth, you can dose the Prestone driveway heat or other calcium chloride product all at once to reach the desired levels. Just mix what you need in a cup or so of fresh water ( R.O. or R.O. / D.I.. ) and add to high flow area of sump etc. It is the alkalinity that you do not want to raise too fast as you can easily spike PH to very high levels with these buffers. Test your tank to see where you are now and use this calculator to see how much to use.
If you want to make a DIY two part additive out of it and a couple of other inexpensive ingredients, I have a revised article coming out in a few days at reefkeeping magazine. In the meantime, here's the original article:
