hi everyone, i am new here:rollface: .

i would really like to know what i would need to get started with nano reef, for example what things i need to get started.

i have had fresh water for about 12 yars and i would really like to give marine fish ago.

You need to start reading & researching both livestock and equipment before you can make an educated decision as to what you want to keep and how much it will cost you both financially and in effort. Start by looking at other's setup's and figuring out how things coincide with each other and the reason's for other reefers' choices in equpiment, livestock, lighting etc. Often times the noobs such as yourself commune in the "New To The Hobby" forum. The primary step is that you will first need to research the inhabitants you'd like to keep and then build a nano around the specific needs of those inhabitants.

It depends on what you want to keep in the tank. Aquapod or Nano cube are good for, a heater to maintain 75F, a bucket of salt, hydrometer. You just have to read about protein skimmer as some swear by it and some say just do your water change 1x-2x with 10%-20% per week and you will be fine. I use one and I don't have that film on top of the filter chamber if do go with one stay away from the fission skimmer. I'm on my 10th week with my tank but have read a lot here on the forum. Start slow and learn as you go and stay away from expensive stuff in the begining and you will be fine and you will enjoy the hobby. If you want to get a jump start you can get live sand and live rocks to help establish the colony of bacteria to handle the bio-load (go see the tampa bay saltwater forum. If you want to take your time and don't want to spend too much upfront then go to lfs buy some low cost base rocks and start with some critters (hermit craps and snails).

i am hoping to keep in the neno tank is two percula clowns in there and a neon goby.

and thanks for the reaplys

hey nemo,

after exhausting research on these forums and more than my share of books (im not a big reader :) ) i went with the 10g w/ the ac110 fuge mod. it looks clean, it is simple, and doesnt not cost very much in relation to starting a marine tank from what i've seen on here. its been up for nearly 2 weeks now and it cycled in about 5 days. all i have is a cleaning crew in there at the moment but cant wait to stick some corals in there ;)

here is the link to the ac110 mod post:

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showt...&perpage=25&highlight=10 g setup&pagenumber=1

and here is what i started off with:
10g tank
2x40 orbit pc fixture
ac110 w/ fuge mod
15lbs live rock
12lbs live sand
50w heater

good luck!

You are starting off good. Ask questions and read, read, read, then read some more. THEN, ask questions. THEN, buy. You will save yourself countless frustrating hours and hard-earned dollars. Many things can be DIY or purchased used.

Be very sure of the livestock you put it. You don't want to condemn a creature to a life in an enviroment it cannot tolerate..
