hi-hat drum in reef?!

Not reef safe. Not even small fish safe. Juveniles are interesting, however, because of their behavior.

I think they are fine in reefs as long as you don't want small shrimp. Unless you have very small gobies they will leave your fish alone too. I have a 6" specimen with royal grammas and it leaves them alone. I think a jack knife or spotted drum would be a nicer looking choice however.

My jacknife does not bother any coral. I would not recomend sinal shrimps but my peppermint are still with him after 3 months. Just pai attention to qt as they are prone to ich and require frequent feeding...

Max wild size is 9" but realistically they get about 6" in captivity. Most of that is tail, too. These fish are sort of like dumb puppies, you can easily get them to take food from your hands but they aren't "smart" like a wrasse, angel, dottyback, etc. IME other fish tend to ignore them and vice versa.
