Hiding PVC Tunnels

Hello All,

I am setting up an Eel tank and I have constructed some PVC Tunnels. I want to keep them hidden but I do not necessarily want a 4in sandbed. Is there a way to nicely and strategically cover my PVC?

You could secure some rocks to the PVC with silicone. You'll still see the pipe in certain areas, but at least you'll have some contours.
Like mentioned above though if your parameters & lighting permit it, securing something like Zoanthids or possibly an encrusting Montipora would work too.

I used 3" PVC for added circulation around my overflow chambers, LR, and caves for the fish. I just stacked my LR over them. What remained exposed, quickly covered with coraline algae.

Wow thanks guys. I just did not want a 4in sand bed because it would turn into a PIA to maintain. I like the siliconing live rock. For the zoanthids are they fairly easy to keep and will they attach easily or will I have to do something? This was meant to be a FOWLR(eel) tank so im not trying to do any high demand hard to keep corals.

@downbeach how long did it take for coraline to cover the tubes?

Yeah, zoanthids are pretty easy to keep just as long as long as your parameters are within reason and the lighting is sufficient. You can attach them to pretty much anything with a little super glue gel too.

I have made many PVC cave tunnel systems for my eels and have always covered the pvc in silicone and then mushed dry sand into the silicone. it blends in pretty well with the sand in the tank and if some of it gets uncovered where it was previously buried then you wont have such an eyesore.

IF this is a FO only tank he will need decent lighting to support the zooanthids/mushrooms - they do need light not a lot
