Both will actually drop, naturally, on their own providing you stop supplementing them.

Whether you need to take more aggressive action would depend on how high your current levels are. Post your numbers.

You probably can wait for alkalinity to drop, but if any animals are showing signs of problems, some water changes are about all you can do that's safe.

DO you use tap water ? Aslo your weekly water changes are very important during this. Alkalinity and ph are side by side . Is your PH high ?
