High Nitrate

I have been having high nitrate readings 40-80 doing water changes without any change. Buying RO water from Walmart test kit API reef master.Water in jug reads 20 could this be water or test kit . has anyone else had this problem.Tank seems find except green alge.

I've heard of alot of people using the culligans machines. Never heard anything about nitrate problems though. Anyway you could get another nitrate test kit and test?

Steve have not tried another test kit. Was thinking today I was testing the water in the jug without salt in it This may make a difference

Their is a big difference between RO water and RO/DI just for a start. Seeing high Nitrates in WalMart water is not surprising I would say it is not your test kit but the water itself. Also keep in mine that just RO water will not have a TDS of 0 so you would see dissolved solids in the water if you used a TDS meter. I would recommend buying an RO/DI unit and making your own water.

I used to use the culligan water from Walmart and had similar problems. I still haven't solved all of my algae issues (really starting to **** me off now) but getting an RO/DI really helped. I have since tested the water at the Ashland City walmart and it read around 80 TDS. Don't know about nitrates, but it did have a hint of phosphates... and a hint, I am sure, is just enough. It's nice not to have to carry jugs around anyway...
