High praise for Barry at Clamsdirect.com

I received two crocea clams last Friday. One is thriving, the other is gone. It never acclimated to my tank, (I acclimated them both the same, and according to directions) and it just diddn't look good.

Now, I understand that shipping these fragile animals is tough, and you'll have some loss now and then. Barry said his loss rate was 1%. I may have been unlucky. However, I didn't ***** about it, didn't email him.

He emailed me to follow up on my receipt of the clams, asked how they were doing. At that point, I let him know what happened.

He was sorry I lost the clam, and sent me a $30 gift certificate for a new one! He didn't need to do that, but in doing so, showed what type of business man he is. He earned a lifelong customer, and I'll refer anyone I know to his website.

Oh... and it doesn't hurt that his clams are friggin' beautiful!

Thanks Barry.

Awesome customer service!! This stuff is great to hear about. I will hopefully some day be buying a clam or two (or more) from him.

ya that Barry is the best, it has been a pleasure to do business with him time and time again, i know i never have to worry about anything when i deal with him or ever get the old run around. i talk to him all the time via email and when i get him on the phone i always learn something from him. i hope to meet him in person one day.

Well, I would like to add that I just received my order from clamsdirect as well. FedEx screwed up the shipping - it shipped out on Monday for a Tuesday delivery, but was lost. Barry was on top of things and getting ready to refund my whole order.

As luck would have it, Barry followed the order (probably made a few phone calls as well) and turned out that it was going to be delivered today (Wednesday).

Awesome clams, and even more awesome service!

I haven't had the pleasure of ordering from him yet, but I do plan to. I go to his site all the time (the store to look at the beautiful selection he always has, and the forum to read), and he is the best by far!

I just got 3 croceas from him today. So far they look great.

I'm a little concerned about how large the inhalant hole (I'm sure there's a better term for this) is on them. It's much larger than my derasa clam's is. I acclimated all three exactly as Barry's instructions said to.

Barry said they will sometimes gape like that for 24 to 48 hours, and it is quite normal.

I had a baby maxima do the same when I initially put him in the tank.

Yeah, I've since read the same thing somewhere else on this board. So I'm not too concerned with the gaping, though I did notice one has a rip in the mantle (the one on the right in my first pic). Is that something to be concerned about?

The one in the second pic attached itself to a shell under the gravel within about 5 hours. I assume that's a good sign of health.

Without a doubt, Barry is one of the best out there. Only vendor I've ever bought from that follows up with a phone call to check on the delivery and your satisfaction! Great Vendor!
