highish pH levels....

Hi,

I just did a water test today and our pH has recently elevated (8.4). Does anyone know why this has happened and what I can do to fix it.

Turn off your light.

Seriously, have you dosed anything that might make it run high? Most tanks cycle from lowest in early am to highest near the end of the day when all the CO2 has been used up by photosynthesis.
8.4 isnt that high really anyway though I wouldnt want it any higher.

No. we haven't been doing anything out of the ordinary that's why i'm kind of puzzled. Our alk is on the higher side and calcium is at 440ppm.... If i turn off the light, will the pH levels go down enough so that when the light goes back on again, it'll be under control???

Then what do you ordinarily dose? :) How high is your alk?

we haven't been needing to dose anything really for a while now, the alk is at about 135mg/L. I have been checking the levels frequently so I don't know what's going on.

Are you using a new salt mix? What test kits are you using?

FWIW, 8.4 is a great pH level. It's a large swing that is to be avoided. How is your livestock right now?

Thanks for the info guys...no we haven't changed our salt mix at all. all of our corals are looking great right now....we are using a hagen master test kit for all of our testing. I'll check it again tomorrow and see if it is still at the same level.
