Hippo Tang QT Advice

I've been in the hobby for 2 decades now and have been using QT for the last decade with excellent success. My treatment routine is 3 rounds of Prazi once the fish is settled and eating in QT. Then I follow with 1 month of Cupramine (used to use coppersafe) at the recommended dosage tested by the proper test kit.

I bought a hippo tang 2 months ago (today) and it's been in QT since arrival. It came in with flukes that were taken care of after the Prazi treatment and I moved onto slowing adding Cupramine. My usual approach is a gradual increase so that it takes one week to get to the desired level. With the hippo tang, after the 3rd day it showed signs of distress by mainly not eating and hiding. I did a water change, waited a week and then tried again with the same result.

It's been 3 weeks since I've added any medications, the fish eats like a pig and has gained a lot of weight (came in very slim from the flukes - loss of appetite) and never displayed any signs of ich or other external parasites. However, it does show a faster gill movement during the day that becomes very slow at night when the lights are off. The only concern I have by not using a round of copper would be introducing Marine Velvet but I would think that symptoms (and death) would have occurred now if the fish was carrying it.

Is it safe to assume that? I could try using Coppersafe but the faster gill movement during the day could also be the result of stress from the QT tank as nighttime "resting" gill movement is normal. The gill movement is the only reason I'm cautious at this time.
