Hippopus for nitrate reduction?

I heard having a ton of Hipopus clams can reduce nitrates? They're interesting to have too.

I have a pretty small fuge I'd like to stock up with hippopus to see if they'll actually keep levels down.

the fuge will be lit with a 150watt hqi, it's 24" x 7" x 15-16"

is this a good / bad idea?

thanks!

all clams take in nutrients, nitrates being part of them. i have never heard of the difference between hippopus clams and other tridacna in their nitrate uptake, but it is pretty insignificant as they will just take up ca and alk. there's a thread on using feeder clams for nitrate purposes, check it out ;)
