Any idea as to what this coral is on the left of this zoa frag? any tips on its name and care would be helpful since i have no sps experience.

that actually looks more like a gorgonian that is local to the gulf of mexico... i have one in my tank that does rather nice without any feeding. i actually collected mine during a trip down there. it seems to be photosynthetic and requires no feeding. grows decently and looks really cool when it really starts to grow and branch out.

not a gorgonian. I keep a gorgonian and have actually collected them locally diving. this is some type of stony. when i got this frag a week ago and put it in the tank after a dip you could see it is a stoney coral as some of the base is bleached. I can totally see how you could think it was a gorgonian. the polyps on this are exactly like those of a gorgonian.

No bought at the lfs any other ideas?

do you know if this was collected in florida? i just cant help knowing i have seen it before while i was snorkeling in the gulf... thats why i though gorgonian because it looks so close in the pictures to what i collected. i have seen alot of different SPS corals in there as well. but didnt get a great look at some of them thru the algea.

I have no idea where it was collected. It was a 5.00 frag. The lfs has a section that has ailing polyps so I usually pick up a couple each month and bring them back. Its actually pretty cool since sometimes I end up getting some pretty rare and exotic polyps since a lot of them are closed up on these frags

By the way, I too have seen what looked like this coral while diving. The ones ive seen are deffinitly sps but are thicker and larger and are almost always growing out of the sand.

hmmm. I looked into both pics of these and it looks more like Pocillopora because the polyp size and extension i see in the pictures in a google search. i could be wrong but does anyone know any tips to help me keep this little guy alive?
