I posted this question on one of my other threads but I figure more people will see it here. I got a frogspawn coral today and there are two white "flaps" on the coral. Every couple minutes a clear thing pops out and quickly retracts. I have done a decent amount of searching around and can't figure out what this thing is. Last night while the lights were off I took a peek. They looked more like clear feather dusters. What gets me though is during the day it constantly pops out and retracts every couple of minutes and when it does it looks nothing like a feather duster. The one on the right is almost shaped like a peacocks tail when it does this (looks really cool). Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll keep an eye on it till I know what it is for sure
maybe a touch less, or less direct. it looks like there is a piece of soft flesh loose near the base on the left hand side?
AISimmons, I just looked up barnacle and that looks exactly like it . I don't really know how I would remove them though. Just grab the feather and pull it out? Ahah. I would use pliers and break it out but it's in the center of the coral and would probably kill it.
Nimitz87, I tilted my powerhead at a different angle and the frogspawns extending his tentacles a little more. The loose flesh is because I just got it after it sat in shipping for 2 days due to a mechanical problem I guess.

Why would you want to pull it out? It's a harmless filter feeder and probably won't live too long in an aquarium.

Sorry it's taken so long to reply. We have a sale going on at work so I've been pretty caughthe up with the extra hours.
Ron Reef man, the main reason I would want to pull it out is to avoid any irritation to the frogspawn. I have noticed the frogspawn with be closed at random times of the days but open again in no time. I'm thinking the barnacles are irritating the coral causing it to close.
