Something along the lines of a tunicate, yes. Harmless filter feeders. Cool, too. They usually don't do well in aquariums, so it might be worthwhile to see if you can grow more of them to give to other people.
Haven't bought it yet but will probably be getting it on Wednesday. The fish guy at the LFS said they were somewhat hard but I could see them move in the flow as he picked it up to ask me if I knew what they were.
