Hitchhikers...

Hello, I just got a couple of hitchhikers on some live rock. I have a small clam (1/3"), and a larger (2") mussel of some kind. I didn't really want then in a tank with curing rock in it, so I slapped them in my 2.5 with 18 watts of pc. Keep in mind that this in NOT a tridacnid clam, just some little white thing. Will I be able to keep them alive with this lighting and phytoplankton feedings?

I have had several that came on my live rock and have been alive for 5 months now.

I dont think you need to worry about light....if its not a tridacnid, its unlikely to need any light at all. Dosing phyto and the presence of fine detritus (bacterial flocs) seem to keep quite a few of my hithchiker scallops and clams alive, some for over two years now.

lots of times they come in very tiny and just grow on teh rock as the tank matures.
