Hitchicker Snail ID - Fish Killer?

Saw this guy crawlin on my mushrooms that I picked up yesterday. Is this something to worry about? Or is it harmless? It's pretty small, maybe only about 1/16"-1/32" After seeing it it slid around the rock not to be seen again.

Is this the really nasty harpoon type snail (fish and people killer) or just a innocent snail that can stay in the tank?

Looks like an olive snail, not sure specific species. But, I can tell you its predatory.

Yup think it's "Lettered Olive Snail" looks like this. Found off South Carolina, Florida. Predatory I think.. the one thick tube in front may be the give away.

I lived in Fl for more then 20 years, I use to collect them. The coloration of that specific one isnt the same of those I've collected.

It actually looks more like a marginellid to me. Probably Hyalina or Volvatella. It will stay small and won't pose any issues in the tank.

As Greenbean says, it's a marginellid. I thinks it's in the genus Volvarina, but there are several similar species found around the world. You could narrow it down if you had a good idea where the snail originated. It won't eat your fishies, at least, not while they are alive. :)

The pics of V. philippinarum don't look all that similar to your snail, but some variations are strongly banded and look almost exactly like yours.

:D I figured you meant Volvarina. I'm prone to do the same thing, especially if I'm answering posts late late at night.

Cheers,
