HO Skimmer in a closed loop

I piped my Remora up on a closed loop this weekend. Put a little Iwaki in the stand and plumbed her up to the remora inlet. The pump is only 174 GPH, but is capable of producing 22 psi. I have the outlet throttled to about 50% because it overwhelmed the skimmer and almost ran over!

I mounted the pump in a piece of plywood about 6" x 12" x 1/2" with a piece of 1/4" silicone rubber isolating the pump from the baseplate. Then I mounted the baseplate to the stand base with wood screws and another 1/4" silicone rubber pad between the baseplate and the stand base. The result is a silent pump. I mean silent. No sound, no vibration, nothing.

I think this kinda makes the addition of a maxijet 1200 to a remora questionable. It seems the ejector on this skimmer needs a substantial amount of pressure. I noticed very dense foam bubbling up the cup column right off the bat. I never ever saw that in the 4 years I have run a Remora with a MJ 1200.

My next step in this project is to rid myself of the bubbles from the return of the skimmer. I am thinking about stacking PolyFilter pads cut to size in the throat of the return until I get the right balance. It worked pretty good with some sponge I had lying around. Filterfloss strangles the return though. Polyfilter looks to be a little more porus than sponge, so it may be just the ticket.

Then I am going to make a pump suction overflow I have an idea how to do this, but I'm gonna see if it works before I go out on a limb.

I'll post some pics later.
