HOB Fuge, ok?

Do you guys recommend me buying an HOB fuge? Something like this
I only have a 40g tank and I need a good fuge badly, my tank is getting full of algae. Anyone has any? Or anyone you know who sells em cheap?

(Not sure what's going on - the first time I clicked the link, it was linking to a submersible mini skimmer (good for up to about 12G), not a fuge...)

You can try to eat the nutrients with a fuge, or you can try lowering your nutrients by lowering feedings / adding a skimmer / feeding smaller amounts more often . Fuge alone may not solve all the problems, most microalgae metabolizes nitrates/phosphates faster than macroalgae, so it'll still be able to get to the nutrients it needs, fuge or not.

Those fuges work wonders for a small tank. The only problem is when you have to reprime the u tube but I think you can rig it with an aqualifter pump.

You can also throw a ball of chaeto in the corner of your tank to get them same effect :D

That's nice to hear. Im getting the one with the skimmer included in it. So Fuge + Good Skimmer = no algae right?

well.. its a start.

Algae problems can come from multiple sources. Phosphates in your water, excess nitrates due to bioload, not enough circulation, etc.

Gotta give us the run down on your tank (inhabitants, water params, etc).

Why not get a phosban reactor instead? Cheaper and with some good media Im sure you can do some damage, but having both will be a +.

Not quite. Then wouldnt that mean someone with a top notch skimmer, and a fuge not have algae break outs? It still happens though...Over feeding, excessivley long lighting hours, not enough or large enough water changes can all lead to algae break outs. Just stay on top of things really is the way to go..Thats whats so cool about this hobby there are so many alternatives...

Good Luck

I have a large non skimmer model I could seel you that has a fitting for a pump if you like it has been sitting in the garage for a year or so. Loved the fuge so much I built a 20g.

PM me if intrested.

y have the macro in a seperate tank? my macros are right in the display tank, makes for great coloration in the tank.

Macro can take over, and there's arguments (search, maybe?) that the light cycle in the display can cause some species of macro to 'go sexual'.

Personally, I keep macro in the display, too - helps keep the pod population up, and my clown loves to play in/around it.

I have a HOB fuge setup full of algae for sale. I just have a cheep floresent light over it. It is curently running on a 24 nano cube, just to keep it running. I sold the 50G I had it on. It is in Irvine $75.00 with light and pump.

I had that stuff migrate into some tanks from the fuge and it's a real pain when it gets stuck in your SPS frags.

yeah that's true. But in my case I think that's what I need to lessen the phosphate level. I have a sucky DIY Power filter turned into a fuge + a sucky Skilter filter. I guess that's what I get for being cheap. :P

Well its a 40 g tank, mostly softies, xenias, leathers, zoas. water parameters are all normal from my last test.

I feed formula-1 once a week and filter feed for 1-2 times a week.

I have 1 clown, 1 coral beauty and 1 bi-color blenny. I might add another clown in the future.

I have 2 seio 620's for circulation.

and PC lighting combined 226W. photoperiod is from 8am to 8pm.

I have skilter (skimmer and power filter) and a tiny DIY Filter Fuge.

My best bet is the skimmer and fuge. What do u guys think?
