HOB mod- good or bad idea?

How hard would it be to take an ASM Mini and make it a HOB? What parts would I need to do this? I was thinking that you could just make arms for the skimmer out of the inlet and outlet by adding more PVC on. Then you could use a MJ to feed it.

How smart of an idea is this? Could the skimmer overflow or something? I live in an area where if my skimmer overflowed, I would get Flayed alive.

Thanks

I own an ASM G3 and would not think opf running it outside of a sump. If the mini is built anything like the others - which work darn good, but don't seal real good then I would think your looking to be crispy :)

It doesn't necesarilly have to be ASM. I could use any brand, as long as the skimmer didn't cost more than$150 (I don't have a lot of spending money now, and won't for a while).
Any suggestions for good skimmers that are cheap?

Thanks

I have been considering the CSS' for a long time, but I hear that they overflow too. I could get a blem uero-reef for $140 and then mod it. How does that sound? Any other ideas?

Thanks

ALL nw skimmer will overflow if they arent tuned correctly. When they overflow, its usually because something went in the water that can be skimmed out.

How big of a tank are you looking? Maybe a used TF1000? or a CSS.

30g, but I don't want a skimmer that overflows. As I stated earlier, if I get ANY water on the floor, I will be flayed alive. I like living, so I don't want any skimmer that could overflow.

I also want to overskim the tank by as much as possible. My Prizm skimmed correctly at one point of time, but now I can't tune it to the right setting. It drips ever now and then and that scares me.

So what do you guys think about the blem euro-reef? I would have a pump that has the same GPH as the needle wheel pump feeding into the needle wheel pump and then the output would overflow back into the tank. I think that I could do this for any skimmer, right?

Also, if you know anyone that is going to get rid of their skimmer or sell it, PM me. (Remember, I have very limited spending money.)

Thanks

I hadn't thought of that. How much are JG fittings? The on;y downside would be if I forgot to empty a full cup and then it filled the rest of the way up and overflowed, I would have some pretty nasty stuff in my tank.

If I got a CSS, Would it be a good or bad idea to take the pump and mod it into a recirculating skimmer, Then use a MJ to feed it? I know this would probably be a waste of money, (Are Recirc skimmers better than non-recirc skimmers?) but I am really.......um......... Ok, lets just say that I like more complex "toys".

Thanks

Just modify the CSS. Put a guest fitting high up in the cup and run it back to the tank.
This is a great solution for your situation.
What goes back into the tank will be skimmed again and a small price to pay for dry floors. Where does the waste go from an overflow in when the skimmer is sitting in a sump?

Ok, how high up should I put a JG fitting on? Which one would be called the "best"? I might buy a CSS 125, but am still looking.

Thanks

Nevermind, I din't get a CSS. Does anyone have any other thoughts on the euro-reef idea? I may be crazy, but I like it a lot.

Thanks
