Hoevens or Vroliks wrasse?

Would like to add one of these guys to my tank. Is a 55 large enough to house one of these guys? I know the hoevens can get pretty big...

I have both in a 200 gallon. The Vrolik will get bigger than the Hoevans. I have noticed that there are brief episodes of the Vrolik becoming aggressive with the Hoevans, but it doesn't cause any damage. Both are great at eliminating pests in a reef. I would go with just one for your 55, and my vote would be for the Vrolik, the colors are amazing on it.

I got mine from the regular LiveAquaria section. I left a testimonial for it on its page. It is one of my favorite fish. It will eat anything I feed it, plus it is always examining the corals and rocks for snacks. I have had it for about 7-8 months. I will try and post a pic of it tomorrow when my lights come back on....

Thanks, doesn't seem like there is a lot of info on the net or even on RC about these guys..... Looks like there are only a few places that carry them as well... They look like sweet fish, sounds like yours has done well!!!

I know this is an old post but I was wandering you said you have both Hoevans & vroliks wrasses in your tank.... Is it a reef tank? If so do you have invert's in there like, hermits, snails, & pep shrimp? If you do have those in there have you ever noticed the Hoeven's eating them?
I just picked up a Hoenen's Wrasse and he is in the QT for now and I want to make sure that my inverts will be okay with him.
Thanks
Mary

Mary,

Any update on how your Hoeven's worked out with your inverts?

I think he has been okay just not sure how many Pep shrimps I had in there to begin with but it does look like some are missing. But my hermits are good & the snails that bury themselves in the sand are good.
My wrasse is a late sleeper & early to bed kind of guy... I got scared a little bit the other day because I never did see him just my timing was off with his schedule.

Thanks for the update. I am trying to determine which wrasse to go with in my new 150g setup. I have hermits and mexican turbo snails but no shrimp so this might work. Not sure though if I want another wrasse that buries. I had a red coris wrasse in my last FO tank and he did the same thing, slept late and went to bed early. I would prefer to have one that is at least somewhat reef safe and stays out and active for longer periods of time.
