I have a male hoevens wrasse, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with pairing hoevens wrasse? How do they interact? Is it hard to find a female?

Wrasses do not form bonded prs. Gender roles are determined by social interactions, with a dominant male chasing, nipping, and flaring fins at a female to keep her a female. This can be stressful to the female. If she does begin to transition this will in most cases lead to the death of one of them as males are intolerant of one another.

I purchased two juvenile/female hoevens wrasses. They grew up together in a 300. Both turned male, and seem to get along fine. Even hung out together. Had to move them into a 33 long, and they got in a fight. They're still in the 33 and seem to get along fine again. They will be going back to the 300 soon.
Female/juvenile hoevens wrasses don't seem to be hard to find. It's not like trying to find female flashers. Your LFS should have no problem getting one in for you. Keeping it female may be the bigger problem.

Thank you both! My hoevens wrasse will remain a batchelor or for life! No need for the stress.
