CUBAN Hog...hands down, the nicest of the two.

I realize it's a matter of personal taste...but I prefer the colors of the cuban
Albano--Oh, I'm not arguing with you; I'm just curious. I wasn't aware that the Spanish hog's colors weren't as strong as it matured. I guess I'm going to have to look for some pictures of juveniles and adults, just to see the difference.

Absolutely, no argument here! I sell cars, so I am well aware, that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'.

Oh, I'm not deciding anything--I don't have a tank! But I like to dream these things out...and I've never heard of anybody with an aggressive-ish Caribbean tank, that's all.
You're right. I did some research and it does seem like the color of the Cuban hog is more consistent with age than the Spanish hog. I suppose if I had to choose between the two, then that's the one I'd go with.
I've never been a hogfish fan, but since there's so few wrasses (family Labridae) in the Caribbean that I wondered about the hogs. That's all!

the cuban also stay smaller which is a plus for most. I like some of the other wrasses from the area too in terms of behavior, but many are not particularly colorful. I've contemplated a Carribean tank with somewhat predatory/aggressive fish with grunts, maybe high hats, but such a tank would have to be quite large
The only other wrasse I know from that area is thalassoma bifasciatum, which is very pretty (and I love thalassoma wrasses).
It's harder to think up an aggressive tank from the Caribbean because there's less diversity than other places. If I made one, it would definitely have a Queen Angelfish! Hmm...going to have to make a nice little fish list for the future...
