Holacanthus Passer!!!

Can't wait to see progress on the pond! I tried taking new pics of the passer, but he moves around so fast, I got to get a better camera, the iPhone sucks. I should be setting up the 110g this coming weekend, after finals are over. I am getting my brother purple tang as well, it's pretty aggressive, we'll see how it goes. It is only 4" and recovering from major HLLE.

Here's some more pics:

This one kinda sucks because I didn't use flash...

Looks like she is getting bigger! So I hear you are tossing the idea around about turning your pond into an angel/tang tank? You could have a pretty cool tank with that! But what would you do with the shark? Also, what happens when you go to college? Does your family like SW tanks as much as you do?

Here's a crappy pic (iphone camera sucks) that shows off the Passer's colors, he looks amazing under better lighting. It's hard to get him to sit still, he comes right up to me at the front of the tank, but just paces back in forth, waiting for food.

Yeah, either the shark pond or a big angel/tang tank (around 240-300g). Right now, I'm leaning towards the pond. But who knows??

Wow, you can really see his true colors in that pic!

Why wouldn't you do the shark pond, but instead have it an angel/tang pond? Getting a 300g tank is going to be probably more money then a 1100g pond. Your using a pond liner right?
Yeah, the passer has some really nice colors. I really want to try and get another emperor too, have him go thru the color changes, I'd love a queen and blue face too. All depends on how the passer's aggression is, hopefully in the 360g, it won't be too bad.

The only problem with the pond, is you can only view from the top of the water, don't get as good of view. In a 1100g pond though, the possibilities are practically endless! What would your stocking list be like? What about making a plywood tank instead? That's what I want to do eventually. A huge plywood tank inwall.

As long as you don't have enough water flow towards the top of the water column, the view is clear, as the water won't ripple.

As for stocking, here ya go:

Shark Pond:
1 - Female Brownbanded Bamboo *
1 - Male Brownbanded Bamboo
1 - Female Yellow Ray
1 - Goldentail Moray Eel
1 - Dussimer Tang
1 - Hippo Tang *
1 - Desjardini Sailfin tang
1 - Orangeshoulder Tang
1 - Vlamingii Tang
5 - Yellow Tangs
1 - Aussie Harlequin Tusk
1 - Red Coris Wrasse
1 - Onespot Rabbitfish

* - I already have

I'm aware thats quite a fish list, but knowing me, I'll probably forget about a few and maybe add more.

Aggressive FOWLR Pond:
1 - Passer Angel
1 - Emperor Angel
1 - Queen Angel
1 - Blueface Angel
1 - Asfur Angel
1 - Sohal Tang
1 - Dussimer Tang
1 - Purple Tang
1 - Vlamingii Tang
1 - Niger Trigger
1 - Clown Trigger
2 - Saddleback Butterfly
1 - Auriga Butterfly

And, just like the Shark Pond, I'll make a few changes here and there.

BTW, both of these lists are just off the top of my mind and are far away from becoming reality.

My 360g could go either way. It really all depends on the passer's aggression. I'd like to add a queen and emperor angels, maybe a blueface, french or bluering, but mostlikely keep it at 3 large angels. I am not too sure about the queen, because of the same genus as the passer (holocanthus) and every adult queen I see is all yellow, kind of boring. Might try a blue or townsend instead of the queen. So here's a better idea
Passer
Emperor
Queen, blueface, french, or bluering?
Flame angel
Coral Beauty
Bicolor, potters, or golden angel?
Sohal tang
Dussumieri tang
Red Sea salfin tang
Mimic (chocolate) tang
Purple tang
Powder blue/brown, yellow or??
algae blenny
Pair percs w/host
Anthias? Lyretails 1M 3-5 F?
Assorted damsels
Harlequin Tusk? Sixline wrasse?

If the passer is really aggressive, I'll go with something like this:
Passer Angel
Sohal Tang
Clown Trigger
Dogface Puffer (?)
Lunar Wrasse
Maybe some sort of eel

As you can see, my stocking list is pretty up in the air as well. Guess it all depends on what works and what doesn't. I'd like to have 6 angels (3 large, 3 pgymy), 6 tangs, and a bunch of other assorted smaller fish. I have ways away until the 360g is set up. I am working on getting the 110g set up once my finals are over. I am getting my brothers purple tang and a mated pair of sargent major damsels (believe it or not, they had a kid, lol). I'd like to try a juvi emperor and either a mimic or dussumieri tang in the 110g as well, so they can transform to their adult colors by the time I set up the 360g.

I say go for the angel and tang tank. I'd love to have a puffer and trigger, but I like inverts. I want a CUC, shrimp, stars etc.

I, too want inverts. The triggers aren't a permanent decision. Chances are they'll get dropped as well. My main worry is Farrah. I've already fallen in love with her and would hate to get rid of her. She's the most personable fish I've ever had. I'm thing about just doing the shark pond, breeding sharks and selling the offspring. I'm also thing about building in a piece of acrylic or glass over the pond, lowered slightly into the water to create a clear viewing window, kind of like this:

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1095596&perpage=25&pagenumber=1

And adding a little hinged "door" to lift to feed everything. And adding a Mag-Float to keep everything hopefully spotless. I, personally, love the idea, but am not too sure on the extra money it would take to do this.

I was thinking about doing that as well, if I ever did a pond. Put a piece of glass or acrylic into the tank so you could view it easier, kind of like a clear floor. I've seen that thread before, very cool and unique. I wonder how he gets into the tank, rearranging, maintanence, feeding etc? Does he have a trap door like you described?

Yeah, being attached always makes it hard to let go. But angels are very very personable fish. I hated seeing my queen and emperor go, but they needed a bigger home. You could always do the shark pond, then do the big angel/tang tank later!

My tank is pretty heavily stocked. And I would need an upgrade soon.

I have 2, 300 gal tanks. One is offline at the moment, and will be operating again in the new year.

Its expensive, running 2. Hence I am looking at an 800 to house all the fish I have in two tanks.

One tank houses:

Annularis
French
Emperor
Passer
Clown tang
Picasso trigger
Flame angel
Chromis (3)

This tank has soft corals/clams (2) in it. Never been touched!

(all the fish above have been with each other for 2 years) Some are as old as 5 years in my tank.

I have a 110Gal tank as a tank I use to familiarise my fish when new to my settings:

I have a 3 inch Blue angel, and a 5in blue face. (I tried to push the limit by adding the Blue Face in. Was good for about 1 month, then all hell broke loose with all four teaming up with the blueface. had to pull him out)

I plan to add these 2 fish when the other tank is setup.

And get a sohal, queen angel (very hard to get here is AU)

I can wait to get a much larger tank. I would ad all these guys in, and hope all goes well. If not I may keep one 300 gal tank. As safety.

All eat New Life spectrum (I buy Jumbo size pellets) and Nori. Clown eats smaller NLS pellets.

Beware of your maintance, Angels poop like crazy, like an airstrike!...LOL!

How big are all your angels and when did you add them in? Hows the passer? Sounds like your going to have a killer set up! So do you still have the blue and blueface? In the 110? I know angels create a lot of waste, this isn't my first one, but definitely the biggest poop machine! LOL! That is why I plan on running BB good flow and a great skimmer.

All the Angels (3) in the current 300gal, are in the 7-9 range inches. Passer is the smallest of the bunch at 5.5inch. I got most of my angels when they were small.

in the 110, blue is 2.5 inch (got him when he was absolutely tiny!)
Blue face would be at the 4.5 inch mark. These guys are together. I like the colour combination of these 2 fishes! Very bright!

Yes definetely run a good skimmer, and weekly waterchanges a must!

I'm just worried about my passer being aggressive because he is already about 6". I definitely want an emperor, I'd like a blueface as well. I wanted a queen, but every adult I see are all yellow and boring. I might lean towards a blue instead? For skimming I was looking into the new extreme 250 its similiar to a bubble king.

usually when they are new, they are most placid. if there was a time to add another angel, this would be the time.

Before he got used to the tank.

Get an emperor larger than him around 8 inch mark.

If you can locate a townsend. This would be nice!

Are the queens usually yellow? could it be the place they are collected?

Most I have seen here in Australia are the nice blue ones we see on pics.
