hole in crocea mantle

I have a crocea that is about 4-inches long. I have had it for about 18 months and noticed yesterday that there appears to be a hole in its mantle located between its "mouth" and "vent" (probably not getting the correct anatomy here). It otherwise appears healthy.

Any thoughts on what caused it and whether it will heal?

if the clam is otherwise healthy it should heal in a week or so.

i cant really help you as to what caused it. did anything fall on it or pick at it?

I don't think anything fell on it and haven't noticed anything picking at it either. I have had some high nitrates that I am working to resolve, but nearly everything in the tank has appeared healthy.

BTW- the whole is probably 1/16-inch when the clam is fully expanded. There may be a little bleaching of the mantel right around the hole. The clam is not gapping at all...like I said, it appears fine other than the hole.

Hopefully it will heal up. I've grown so used to seeing that clam in there, I will be bummed to lose it.
