Holes in Trumpet/Candy Cane?

I think it is a trumpet (maybe candy cane?). I got the coral from a friend and it has been blowing up like crazy ever since. It still eats and looks healthy other than these spots. There are some white "chunks" that almost look like bite marks the size of what a lizard could accomplish. All my other corals are healthy. It still eats when target fed and gets plenty of light to the heads, but this fleshy part of the stalk doesn't get much light penetrating through.

Any idea what is causing this?

Bump. No clue? I had two large branches on this specimen, so I recently cut off the affected area. No idea if this will continue to spread through the remaining piece.

Any possible thoughts?

I had an 'arabian' cowrie that would take bites out the my candy cane and fungias. Everything I heard and read said it couldn't be that but I caught it in the act and everything's fine since. Any unique snails it could be?

Thanks for the replies! It's nice to hear back from others in the community.

I ended up losing the coral. Honestly, I think it was poor flow and placement in the tank. But since then, I have added a female emerald crab and melanurus wrasse (had a skunk cleaner shrimp already). Between the three of them they wiped out some clear flatworms, pyramid snails, and some other small/neutral snails I looked up at one point. All is well now!
