I just noticed one of my hermits has a big hole in his little house.
It's a rather large hole and exposes his back.

Do you think I have a pest in the tank? Would a flatworm do this?

Have any pictures of common 'pests'?

Could it be that he just traded shells and this time upgraded for the sunroof option? LOL

I don't recall any of my snails having the sunroof... but it does seem like a larger shell than the one he was in.

thats funny. Have any mantis shrimp you don't know about? Thats kinda of a dumb question hahaha. Maybe that could be something? I dunno no

The chances of there being a mantis in that tank are slim to none. I've looked that rock over more than most parents look their own kids over when they are born. It sat on my desk for quite some time and I saw nothing.

It's a 10 gallon holding tank, and has 1 hunk of rock. Nothing else in it but some corals, crabs, snails, worms of some type (pinkish), and pods.

oh just a thought he more then likely just changed to a bigger shell. he got ripped off on that deal.

Could it be that the shell already had a whole in it? What else do you have in the tank? Fish/Inverts

Right now.... oh, if we're being half specific:


Snails: ceriths, nassarius, trochus
Hermits: blue, left hand
Zoos/polyps: 1 unknown, 1 plain 'button'
Corals: leather, finger

I do know first hand that you've got to be careful when picking out snails, hermits, and anything else for that matter. I know before i really didn't bother that much when i would go into the LFS and purchase snails and hermits until one day when i went in and just said give me 7 bumble bee snails and when i got home to put them in the tank i found out that they sold me 6 empty shells. Needless to say i was pretty pi$$ed. That was about a year ago. Now i hand pick and look at everything very close before i pick something out for my tank.

It's really not very pretty at the moment :|

It has 130w of PC over it, ugly skimmer, powerhead, aquaclear w/ light for a fudge... it's really quite the sight. It's only to hold some livestock (cleanup crew) till the 25 gallon gets cycled. Even then, that's only to hold livestock for the 72 gallon(I think we all know where this is going, huh?)!
