Holy crack batman

It is going down the side panel about 1/8 of an inch.

Rather than tearing down the whole tank and giving up the hobby there is another option that you might want to consider. When I built my tank I didn't want to deal with eurobracing gettin in the way so a had my father-in-law weld an angle iron frame to wrap the entire top of the tank. Of course it needs to be coated in some way to prevent rust. I don't have a pic of my tank available right now but here is a pic of what I'm talking about

I would drain the tank down about 2/3 so that the frame fits nice and snug once its refilled. A properly built and fitted frame should prevent the crack from ever getting worse.

My frame has held up very well for over 2 years now. My only complaint is the guy that did my powder coating did a terrible job and the frame began to flake a rust after only six months. Whenever I eventually tear down the tank to move it, I'll sandblast and recoat the frame myself.

Good luck, try to consider all your options. It would be a real shame if you had to give up the hobby because of this setback.

Also, in your case, the rust problem won't be as big of an issue because you'll still have the eurobracing in place, seperating the metal frame from the water

I will way my options maybe with a upgrade with glass.:D Now if only I can talk the wife into it.

You sly dog...

Your not fooling anyone. You cracked your tank yourself so that you could convince your wife to get a new tank... a bigger tank... and glass tank... so you don't have to chip away at coraline anymore.

Ingenious plan, wish I had thought of it myself

Would you like me to come over and look at this?

The big problem with this tankis that whoever made this tank did not round the corners but cut them on a 45 degree angle. The sharp corners will always fail. They failed on my 76 and my 90 corner tanks...

The best slution would be to place another 1/4" thick brace across the whole top with rounded corners or at least reinforce the the corners with another brace...

That's at least from what I can see form the pics...

A 120-48-30 would look sooooo good.

I am really sorry to hear about this John, thats got to suck big-time :( You know glasscages could biuld a 120x48x30 pretty cheap, but Farmer would hate you and stop hangging out with ya if you did that. Hopefully you can resolve this issue in a quick hassle free and painless way without getting out of the hobby.

Really ingenious plan x2. Notice the time of year this happend??? Tax return time?? ;)

Any way at all I can help, just let me know John. I have plenty of space at the moment, got the reactor pretty much dialed in, I'd be happy to house anything coral-wise, until you are rdy tomove into a new tank/home.

Glass cages told me they wouldn't go any bigger than 96x48x24 in glass. He said anything bigger is just to akward for them to handle. :(

I would recommend taking any monies that Gary and A.R.T. give you and putting it towards a GLASS tank. On a tank that size, what good is it if you can't see inside it due to coralline algae:lol:

Well I just got of the phone with Dwayne and Dave from art wants to come and take a look at my stand. I have a few people coming down from chi town this weekend to look at my corals. The wife is like ( Im tired of putting money into this thing ) We shall see I added all my dry goods up I have way more money in this thing then I thought. I guess it is not good to do that. Im going to work on the live stuff alittle and see if it worth staying in it.

Why get out when money was already spent. You'd lose more money getting out of it than staying in. The stock that you currently have is already paid for. Giving it away or selling it cheaper than you bought it would put you back further (investment wise.)

Its not that you have to draw a line in the sand and I think Im almost there. I probable wont get out just thinking about it.

Are the Chi-Town folks coming to clean you out of corals?

If you get out I don't blame you....much as you have spent and all the trials and tribulations...besides, you got to keep your wife happy. Nice knowing you and good luck either way;)

If I had a dollar for everytime Markk said he was getting out of the hobby I could have had my tanks up and running two years ago:lol:

I am just going to frag down alot if it all goes good there will be less of a chance for losses.

That sucks!!!
keep us updated on what he says, suddenly I don't feel so good about my purchase (even though mine doesn't have the eurobracing). Oh well, I guess if it never gets water in it it won't crack huh?
