was wondering if anyone has used these dehumidifiers from home depot?

they range from about 25pint to 65 pints removal. will one of these help in my fish room?(16x9x8ft ceiling?) with over 600gals of water? how large of a unit do i need?

the room already has its own ac and heater unit that is connected with one bathroom and one other bedroom.

I have used the 65 pint unit in my 8 x 12 fish room. With a total of 700 gallons of system water. The unit worked fine, you have to empty every 3 or so days. They are loud and give off a lot of heat. My problem became excessive CO2 in the room causing my PH to drop at night. I finally stopped using it and put (2) timed fans in a window and let some fresh air into the room.

Happy Reefing

Yeah, you're better off venting your tank to the outside. Since you live in Phoenix, you should have no problem doing that, except during the monsoon season.

Dehumidifiers are energy hogs BTW.

You can get the newer LG models from HD that have humidistat controls on them. I picked up the black LG 65 pint and it is doing wonders. I live in Ohio and its 23 out right now. Leaving windows open isn't an option.

 Right on, decent control is the way to go. I have a Whirlpool 50 pint in my basement with my sump, 180, and frag. It runs pretty much full time during the summer and an hour or so a day during the winter. My basement is about 70 degrees at 40-42 humidity during the winter, 75 50-55 during the summer.

are these new LG models noisy or cause alot of heat also?
i live in phx az where it only gets tobe about 45 F as the low.

any "venting" machines out there?

The two dehumidifers I used kenmore and lg both gave off heat but what killed me was the cost of electricity. They do make a humming noise when they are running. It will be annoying if the tank is in the living room.

As far as I'm aware, there is no way around the electricity or heat. If you're looking for a "dehumidifier" that doesn't put off heat, it's an air conditioner ;)

I agree though, mine is in the basement. The Whirlpool isn't too noisy on low, but does make the humming sound and have a little fan additive.

so air conditioning dehumidifies? i dont really use it in the winter, but could use the dehumidifier for the winter i guess or leave one of the windows cracked open and have fans blowing in and or out of the windo?
