Home Sump Pump

Is it possible for the sump line in your home to freeze up?

I ask because my sump pump started running, and I noticed it ran for a bit but would not shut off. It is so cold outside, and I did do a water change last night, was wondering if water in the line could freeze up and not let the pump move water?

Anyone? Opinions?

Most of the sump pumps are low flow high pressure. They try to pump water out of a low place up very high... It is possible. You can fix the problem with some slatwater.

I think that is what happened. Did a water change 2 nights ago, and of course the waste water drained into the sump. Probably some residual in line and then last night the auto top off.

I heard the sump pump come on and it ran for a bit. When I noticed it wasn't shutting off, I investigated to see the drain with quite a bit of water in it, and the pump was a bit warm and still running away.

Unplugged the thing, shut off my feed line to thr ro/di unit, and will put on my carharts when I get home and investigate the drain line.
