Home sweet home...

My new Emerald crab decided to call my brain coral home. He just sits right in the middle, and keeps his eyes on his new tank mates. Is this a "normal" place for the crab to live? Will he hurt my brain coral?

I have had emerald crabs in all three of my aquariums without any problems (and one is just HUGE). But I rarely see them. They are always picking at some rockwork that I cant see. Sorry, I cant be sure, but from my observations, having one stay in one spot, and that too in an open area, seems abnormal. But I am no where near an expert here...

Ooops.....my mistake. I caught a pic of the Emerald cruising the rocks of his new home. The second pic is of the brain, with what I guess is a hermit crab inside.

I think the odds are very good the crab won't eat the coral, although it might try to grab food from it.

This lttle guy seems to be pretty bold for a "new" guy. He's been out all day snacking on the various algae in my tank.

Mine seems to get lost for days on end. Tonight I am looking in the tank and look into a hole in one of the rocks and there are his two white eyes looking back at me. I get the magnifying glass and sure enough it's him. Looks funny in there looking out but I have found his lair.

In the second pic you said the brain coral.. I didn't see a brain....

We have two emeralds - they pick at rocks all day (and bubble algae!). They walk all over the corals. The corals get mad and shrink up but they come back just fine. I do also see them "camping" out in our leather or under our torch... they just take a break and rest sometimes.

I had posted this pix one time - it was just too cute but I did worry about the leather -- the leather also came back just fine...
