Home Theaters.

Mitsubishi 47" Diamond series LCD
Harmen Karden 5.1 surround with 2 HDMI outputs and 1 Input and digital suround.
Bose Red Lines with passive sub system
No clue of the manufacturer but it is the same subs that they use at Rain forest cafe for their thunder effect. A buddy of mine did the installs in Chicago and he got me one at cost. I can't even really use it since it is so loud. I am getting to old.
Apple TV wirelessly hooked up to my home computer with 200 plus movies and 5000 songs and hundreds of pictures. By far the best investment I have made for my home theater. I have since stored all of my DVDs and CD's and now can access any movie or song from my collection with a remote control command.

Next greatest investment is the Logitech Harmony 880 remote. One push of a button and all components start ups to the present settings. I can go from watching a DVD to watching TV to cruising you tube on Apple TV all with a touch of the Button.

I have not made the jump to the PS3 yet still on the old s school PS2 and an Xbox.

When the technology first came out I bought an Sony upconverting DVD player that gets me 1080I output. However since we got the Apple TV we never watch DVD's any more. We rent from Itunes or just buy the movie in a digital format.

If you didn't notice we love the Apple TV we no longer have 20 DVDs laying around with sticky kids fingerprints or my son killing the movie Cars (I seriously have 4 copies of this movie and 3 of them are shot because of my children)

What I am looking for is a high end record player. I would love to be able to listen to some classic albums on vinyl on the Bose Speaker.

I have a Sony 101 disc CD player that again has been replaced by Itunes and a great Pioner 5.1 surround sound receiver that is a great product but didn't have the HDMI inputs so I replaced it with the new Karden and an old school Kenwood duel tape deck that is in the garage somewhere.

Need help from the experts. I need a soundbar type of speaker set up for a room (single speaker surround with a sub) what would you guys recommend? i know it's not the optimal setup, but it will work for a family room next to the kitchen.

Thanks for the help

Panasonic Plasma, 50"â€"best toy in a long time (ATB skimmer is runner-up!)...

Panasonic Blue Ray, BD-40, rules too...

Still working to match up my sound system, but Blue Ray sounds so phenomenal over my Pioneer Dolby Surround cordless Headphones, I've been lax (and my apartment neighbors thank me)...

I took down our HT but at one point ran:

Paradigm Studio 40s + matching center, surrounds, sub...
Rotel RSX-1055 receiver
Panasonic CP72 (changer version of the venerable RP82)

HT is definitely addictive like aquaria as you can endlessly tinker, upgrade, chase the latest, greatest equipment, but at the end of the day I revaluated my priorities and usage, and decided to sell it all and stick with a two-channel setup.

Current two channel - Rega Mira/Apollo/R5 speakers.

To those with plasma, did you get your set calibrated? If so, did you see any difference afterward?

Yes, followed the "basic" calibration instructions I found on the net, and it makes big difference. Some have said that you can't use such "standardized" settings across the board for all sets, but I tweaked a little here and there and it is much nicer. I have done it for two other Panny Plasma owners and they agree, much nicer. The vivid factory settings are just too much...

Using these "standardized" settings, when I tried to calibrate it with a THX DVD calibration tool, it was right on the money for almost all the settings...!

PM me if you want the settings to start with and the WWW links...

2 channel all the way. Everything sounds better in stereo on my Dynaudio's, including SACD, DVD-A and the like....

Rega gear is sweet :D

Hah, aren't apartment neighbors a shame ?

Another thing I'm into is vintage audio for 2ch stereo listening (not movies). I had a nice pair of Advent speakers I let go to a friend who sold them on ebay later, and I had a great Marantz 2230 receiver.. Cousin spilled a cup of MILK in it while it was on... FRIED, total loss.

Marantz is nice audio stuff, I miss that thing... I took it down since I let the Advent's go, had it down for years and just for kicks I took it out and plugged in some Home theater in a box speakers, and it still didn't sound that bad... Till the milk.

So on a side note, anybody else here into Vintage Hi-Fi gear ?

haha, you know what they say about BOSE !

Better Off with Something Else.

Also, the time tested truth "No highs, no lows, must be BOSE".

From an audiophile who takes speakers as serious as you guys take reefs... Stay away from BOSE.

I knew a guy who knew a guy who was incharge of UPS shipping for Kenwood back in the mid to late 70's...I bought a KT-815 tunner, KA-801 Amp and matching cassett deck for 650.00 back in 1978..These models had not reached the stores yet. Retail was around 2K at the time...I still have the tunner and amp in the garage with the old Bose AM5's

Back in the day it was hard to beat Marantz, Kenwood did a hec of a job with these two tho.
