Honey Chromis eat xenia?

hey all, I have an Orange Honey Chromis in my 10g tank and i've seen him nip at my pulsing xenia (elongata) and sometimes they do close up and i dont know why but usually they are fully open.. but sometimes they dont pulse and they're "fingers" look bitten or like something ripped some of the fingers off...

do you think or know of anything that would do this to a xenia?
maybe my chromis when he is really hungry nips at them?
