Hood builder

Things are getting closer on my 55 and I am ready to get a hood. Only problem is I have no construction skills. So I am looking for who can build one for me. It shouldn't be that hard. Anyway this is the design I came up with so let me know if it looks messed up or not.

The green area will be a lid that hinges open over the "super sump" It would be nice if this was piano hinged so it would lay flat on the rest of the hood. The yellow will be some sort of feeding lid, whether it be just the front or a little bit into the hood I am not sure. It would be dependent on the light fixture I guess, which is black. That will be a tek light T5 fixture that will need to be securely mounted onto the hood. So when I take the hood off to work on the tank it doesn't go a flying.

So how does that design look? My only main concern is getting the Tek mounted in there. The tank is only like 12" wide and the tek fixture is 16" for the 6 bulb version, which is what I want. But if I need to I can back down to the 4 bulb version which is 12". Of course that is less wattage, 54 watt vs 39. Less bulbs too. but if I need to make it smaller than I will. Reason I wanted the 6 bulb is so later down the road I could use it on a 6 foot tank :) always planning ahead.

Also there is a center brace on the tank that will be under the T5. Would this cause any major issues heat wise with weakening the brace? Anyway if you know someone who can build one let me know please. I am trying to get things wrapped up as fast as financially possible so I can get my TBS rock before the water heat up too much. Less Isopods that way.

Thanks
Scott

I think you might have problems with support on the canopy like that. Why not just make the whole hood open in the front 1/2 way across the top. should give you plenty of room for the fuge. How tall are you going?

well the only reason I am really making a hood is the light unit is only 36" and I didn't want to ghetto rig it since I couldn't use legs. I think I am going to make a plexi cover for over the sump too just to keep the light out. Hieght eise I am not sure. I would have to measure and that would require me to get up. I will get you a height but it is a standard 55 AGA tank on a stock stand. So maybe 40 inches I guess is how high it is.

oh whatever it would need to be to hold the light and do its thing. I have no height problem where the tank will go. Not really sure how high the lights needs to be off the surface of the water. SO I guess at least that. I don;t have the light yet either. still working on that. I hope to have it soon though.

I figure 4 or 5 inches? You think I could put a 16" fixture or would that be just too wide? Not sure how wide the lamps are. If there is an inch or 2 of housing on each side then it may not look funny. The water line is about an inch below the tank edge so the lights would site about 3-4 inches above the tank I guess. I will have eggcrate of the tank too to keep jumpers in, and an added bit of security.....I have a kid....she now walks....NOTHING is safe anymore.
