Horizontal glass drilling

I wonder what your experiences are drilling glass horizontally. I would like to expand a closed loop system on an All-Glass 220gal. Completely draining and moving the aquarium is more work than I care to undertake at the moment. I hoped I might be able to drain about half water out and drill 2 holes for 1" bulkheads. Anyone tried something similar?

If you have someone stand there with a water pic or a water hose and keep water sprayed on the glass to keep it cool I have little doubt you can do this.

It will be messy though with water and ground up glass sand all over the place.

You need a diamond hole saw and a battery operated screw gun. Do not use a standard drill because it's too hard to control the speed. It's too easy to bind up the bit and crack the glass.

I have drilled lots of tanks and there is no difference between doing it vertically and horizontally as long as water is running over the surface at all times.

Good luck with the project.
